Compiled by Don Easterling. This book covers the time period of 1920 through 1925 and chronicles the activities and happenings of individuals, families and communities of Franklin county from White Oak Creek to the south county line by using stories from the Mt. Vernon Optic-Herald published during this time. Many of the stories and articles published were submitted by the county correspondents, especially "Coon Creek" (Joe Gandy), which is liberally used in this book. The early 1920s was a time of rapid change in society and the way of living, with prohibition, women's suffrage, the introduction of installment payment, transitioning from animal power to mechanical power and the liberalization of moral thinking led to exciting times and adventures.
